Accessibility Policy for Deaf Patients
Deaf patients are still facing major barriers to communications when accessing their local GP Surgery. Poplar Grove is committed to enabling equitable access for our Deaf Patients.
We will enable our deaf patients to receive support in their preferred language and communication methods which includes arranging BSL interpreters when requested. We do request at least 48hrs notice if an Interpreter is needed as these are arranged through an NHS commissioned provider.
We will make a note in the patient’s records of their communication support needs. We will record whether they are deaf and need an interpreter, have a carer or personal assistant with them, and their chosen method of contact and who has permission to speak on their behalf.
ECONSULT
You can now complete an online form (called an EConsult) via our website to submit your request for either an appointment or general enquiry. Our Navigation Team will clinically triage each request, with those most urgent prioritised. There is a free text option for you to provide additional information on the accessibility requirements you wish to have in place for the appointment. Click the link below to access the form weekdays from 7.30am
Urgent appointments:
If an urgent appointment is needed, the quickest way is to telephone the surgery and our team will complete the online form on your behalf, highlighting the urgency. On these occasions the patient may wish to ask a family member to call on their behalf. Alternatively, you can submit an EConsult request via the website. This system will pick up clinical red flags to prioritise those with the most need for urgent triage.
